Description
Chrissy and I took a trip to Lowe’s Sunday - always a dangerous time for my wallet. We found a number of succulents to bolster our collection and this was one of the tiny ones. This is a little larger than 1:1 done with my A77II and venerable 200mm macro.
Specific Feedback
Used a vignette to isolate the flower a bit more. Enough, not enough, too much?
Technical Details

Beautiful, Bill, even with a bad hair day. I’m good with the amount of vignette. It feels like a tight crop to me though. Just for my personal taste I would prefer a bit more room at the top especially, and maybe a bit on the left as well. I would be thrilled to call this my image, so I feel like I am nit picking. Such nice details. Well done.
Gorgeous image, Bill. Doesn’t look like bad hair to me. I’ve seen some modern styles that look pretty similar. I need to see if I have the latest Helicon Focus version-I’m amazed that it did such a wonderful job on all those overlapping spines. This looks like a great addition to your collection and I’m expecting to see a lot more images from it.
Another gorgeous catus image. Vibrant colours and nice comp. I’m a little puzzled by the top left area of the flower - not sure what is going on here. The petals look cut off, or maybe a stacking glitch? Along with Shirley, I’d also like a bit more room all around.
Love the spines too. I’m sure we will be seeing more of this beauty.
Sandy: Those petals were creased and I didn’t take the time to try to fix them. Depending on the weather the other buds should open in the next few days.
Wow Bill, that is a great composition. The base of the plant and how the needles arc to the flower came out well. The vignette looks good. I like the background not clashing with the flower. Well done
