Oh My! This is fantastic! Immediately having a hard time trying to express what my impression is, or how many cool adjectives I can use…
My first thought is, are these really little balls on the sand - as in 3-dimensional? or are they just 2-dimensional patterns in the sand? It’s quite the optical illusion if it’s the latter.
Second impression was that of a micro photograph - as in underneath a microscope; you know, like molds or something.
This is just really cool and a wonderful capture. The b&w processing really makes all the textures come through.
I love this!
And you’re so right about this being a fleeting moment; the wind or water will disperse of this quickly and who knows what nature will create next.
Very cool patterns, Chris. I’ve never seen this phenomenon and it’s interesting to try to speculate on how those “balls” were formed. Sand patterns are so ephemeral and so complex that there is always something new when you visit the beach. I know I can never resist looking for them.
Sure it is somehow a photo of sand, but the “What else it is” is the terrific part. Once I stopped thinking about how the balls came to appear, I relaxed and enjoyed the bright line coming down from the left until it bounced off the lower ball and met the chevron which went up to the right and climbed up the upper ball. Maybe I am easily entertained today, but this really hits the spot. I appreciate the graininess of the scene.
I am really enjoying the energy in this composition. The patterns in the sand remind me of ship wakes. It’s as if the objects are being propelled through the image. The diagonal line adds to the dynamics of the scene and helps with the balance as well as leading the eye. There is also the fine curved line between the subjects implying a subtle connection. A very successful abstract with a lot going on to keep the viewer engaged.
