Technical Details

Canon EOS R50, 18-150mm, ISO 100, f/25, 6s. Tripod, 2 lamps, zoomed fully in then out during the exposure. In post processing I reduced the overall exposure to achieve the effect I was looking for.

This is very interesting, Jim, and quite cool. I’ve played with this a couple of times when fall colors are out, but never thought to try it with a close-up indoors. I really like the effect of the zoom to create that spotlight and the rays. Personally, I think I’d crop to remove the dark corners on the top and concentrate on the more brightly lit portion of the scene. This is something I have to try.

Jim: I haven’t done a zoom abstract in a while so this is a nice reminder and a delight to view. Lots of impact here and a very fine result. >=))>

Jim, the sense of a light explosion from the center is great. I also like how the bright rays get dimmer but do project to the frame. In the large view, there’s plenty of detail along the left edge, which adds well to the view.

HI Jim,
I just did something similar with agave in the yard where I’m renting a house. I’ll share tomorrow after I get a chance to cull and process a bit.

I like the amount of detail still here. We can still tell it’s a rose, and yet there is a level of abstraction, really just movement, that adds an element. I’m trying to decide what the effect of that is. After just looking at another yellowish abstract, I’m feeling that it makes me uneasy, but it might be the cumulative effect.

To me, the zoom out gives me a sense of jumping back from it, and yet it’s a yellow rose, which should be so friendly. The darkness at the corners adds to my sense of something changing, a friendship that is about to end, a return that is not as imminent as expected, or forgiveness not accepted.

Perhaps I’m reading too much symbolism into the colors, the movement, the yellow rose as a symbol on its own, but that’s how I’m reading it right now.
