Bear's Den Falls

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

A chilly, early morning a few years ago, at Bears Den Falls on the Middle branch of the Swift River in MA. It is a spot with a deep rich history, but I love it for the form and power of the flows.

Guy, this is a great image. The B&W perfectly showcases the falls. The comp is ideal, imo, and the detail on the rocks, trees, and falls is excellent. Perfect SS to get ideally milky water.
Very well-done!

I like the B&W treatment Guy. I’d still like to see the color version though. You’ve done a nice job balancing the overall composition, and a very nice job with the SS for the smooth water. This has some really nice water features that your placement has accentuated well.

I agree with both Sandy and Ed for shutter and composition but there is one splash area mid left that’s more of a spray and it keeps drawing my eye there. I am not sure of a solution other than isolating that area and adding some motion blur. It’s picky but when something pulls my eye away, it’s hard not to see it for the trees, so to speak.
Do need to note that I love your B&W treatment. I can’t imagine color making it better.

Nicely rendered b&w. The middle rock really has presence.
