Beartooth Butte over Beartooth Lake

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Beartooth Butte stands out from the surrounding along the Beartooth Highway because it’s the only flat lying, not metamorphosed rock for many miles. It’s colors also stand out from the surrounding rocks, which are mostly dark and highly eroded. It’s a real eye catcher for many miles. In this case, the view is from the Beartooth Lake campground (across Beartooth Lake…surprise, surprise)

Specific Feedback

The bright sun and mostly clear sky are great at letting the colors in the butte show. They contrast nicely with the early spring greens in the lower slopes and the blue of the lake. Definitely a “Kodak” moment.

Looks like a fine mountain day, Mark. I like the varied textures and color. The butte is pretty impressive in both its size and geology. Given the bright light, you were able to get good detail in the rock. My only wish is for a cloud in the ULC.

Nicely done!

Hi Mark,
This turned out rather nicely considering the harsh lighting conditions. I do like the colors in the butte and they compliment the blue sky and the green landscape beautifully. While I like this as presented I also like it without the lake. I did a scroll crop and I think that works as well; a twofer if you will. How was the campground? Not bad scenery for crawling out of the tent or opening the RV door.

Mark,

Clean and classic. Great job framing a lovely landscape given the bluebird conditions.

I really like the balance of elements and how the lake and sky balance out to frame the butte very nicely. The shadow play on the right adds another fine element.

No nits of suggestions - although I would echo Preston’s wish for a little fluffy-ness in the ULC. In no way an image breaker though.

A beautiful photo of a beautiful place and man, I really wish I could be standing there, enjoying the view right now. I love the combination of the red and the green in this image.
