Birds in Snow 3

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is my last post of birds in snow for now as it has mostly melted here. The brown thrasher was a pleasant surprise as this was the first sighting in my yard this season.

Another very nice set of birds in the snow, Allen. Snow does tend to bring out the birds we don’t usually see in the winter. In my location, I never see Varied Thrushes or Towhees in the winter unless it snows. Then they come straight to the feeders.

All excellent looks at these birds and the snow really gives them some pop.

Sweet images! They are all excellent - the colours against the snow really pop.

Wonderful catches, all! I’m always frustrated by the flat lighting on cloudy days and couldn’t resist trying my fill light technique on the BB, for just a bit of punch.

Here’s the quick mask I painted to get the selection for the curves.

Just a quick selection – the mask could be altered after seeing the result of the curve. Maybe the shoulder needs to be partly painted out.

Thanks Diane. That does add some pop.

This is another set of excellent images Allen. I am amazed a the clarity and color with all of that white snow that had to be really hard to keep under control.

Allen, all three look great. The level of detail in the birds and the snow suggest that you had overcast conditions. I especially like how the Thrasher’s eye stands out.
