Description

I finally got out to our local pond to try shooting some dragonflies a couple of days ago. By getting there early, I though I 'd avoid the crowds (that part worked) and find dragonflies clinging to vegetation until they warmed up (I don’t know where they were but it wasn’t where I was). They showed up about an hour after I got there as things warmed up and started cruising over the pond. Luckily, this species seems to like to hover and check things out. These are from three different series, though it might all have been the same dragonfly-not sure.

Specific Feedback

I included the Butt shot because it shows the wings the best and the wing attachment, which I think are pretty cool. Probably not an artistically satisfying image. I’m interested in any suggestions for improvement.

Dennis: Spectacular captures all. I especially like #3 because of the BG which really sets off the DF for me. I’m going to have to get more serious about flight shots. You and Russ are killing me. >=))>

Hi Dennis,

These are fun! Please keep them coming.

Here in the Sonora Desert, the dragonflies are zooming around the pond at max speed by 8:30 or 9 a.m. In the middle of the day, they retreat to the trees. It turns out they don’t like 104 degrees any more than we do.
