This shot is from the summer. Pretty heavy crop. Processed in Capture One. Was going to run some NR on the BG and sharpen the bird in PS, but PS just froze on me. Guess this will have to do for now!

Very nice job on the blues, Lyle. They’re always tough to get looking right. The noise and sharpening don’t look like they need much work. Sorry about your PS.

The noise is reasonable you’ve handled it quite well. Probably not the most dynamic pose for this grosbeak, but you captured the rust shoulder patches and dark blue color very well. You may want to try recropping this one horizontally vs. vertical and see which one looks the best. The BG looks very nice. Well done…Jim
This looks pretty good even though it is a large crop. I think the D 850 gives one a little more leeway. Excellent pose a detail. I agree that a horizontal crop would be worth exploring. Nice color and background.
