Description
Saw this grosbeak in a field at the state park this morning.
I’m not sure if this is a female or an immature male.
Specific Feedback
I included two versions showing different amounts of the vegetation around the bird. Any preference?

Cool! I’ve never seen one of these. Great detail and BG. The first is more balanced, but I like the 2 seed heads in the second, even though they make the crop a little awkward.
I’d go for #1 - but both are worthy.
You’re really catching the spring birds!

Hi Allen
The Blue Grosbeak, has great feather detail, eye contact and coloring. As for the framing, I am going with the first post. I think the second would work if there was more room on the lower frame bring the Grosbeak up to just bellow center frame.

Beautiful color and detail in the grosbeak, Allen. Both images show a good sense of the environment and lets the bird shine, so I’d go with the first one as the bird is more prominent.

I think I’d prefer the second if you had more room under it-maybe the entirety of the lower leaves in front of the bird. The flower heads in the second go a long way to making those three stems on the right relevant to the image, whereas in the first image they’re just in the way for my taste and I’d probably remove them in that version.
Excellent job photographing this beauty.
