Boom!

Seen last June while kayaking Long Island Sound and thought it was quite an unusual shape. It was slow in developing so had plenty of time to compose, and the water was fairly calm to allow a hand-held shot.

Is this a composite: No
Sony RX10 M4, ISO 100, 1/1000, F/6.3, AWB, 34mm (35mm equiv), hand held. Shutter speed was high hoping to catch in flight birds.

Jim, this is a great look at this thunderstorm. That flattened top is called the anvil and it means that the storm will be nasty, probably including hail. The blue skies and green fields do a fine job of setting the stage for the storm.

Thanks @Mark_Seaver for that interesting observation…didn’t know about anvils and it certainly fits the image. As it turned out the storm never reached us, thank goodness!
