When I planned my Utah trip for the latter part of May in 2019, never did I expect to see snow covered hoodoos, but the area picked up about 4" a day before I was due to leave. I ended up revisiting many locations due to that fresh blanket of snow that changed the whole landscape.

I’m guessing that pink hue in the center is from light reflecting off the rocks? All suggestions and comments are welcome and thanks for viewing.

Hi Jim, what a special event you got to witness! It is really incredible to see (let alone photograph!) snow on th red rock of southern Utah. I appreciate how the two towers of red rock flank the entrance, leading down & into this fairy land. To that end, I played around with cropping it in (with my hands ;<) to make it more vertical, or even square & increase the sense of wanting to follow that path. Kind of fun to play around with. As to the pinkness - yeah, it doesn’t look right. Did you try a white balance adjustment? I see the pink in the sky also, that does look good- was it a blue or golden hour shot? You’ve got a good sense of depth from front to back.
Wow – gorgeous!! I like @Connie_McClaran’s idea of playing with crops – maybe just from the right to start with. The pink snow is strange, but should be fairly easy to deal with using a color range selection and masking it down to that one area. The distant landscape is a fairyland.
@Connie_McClaran and @Diane_Miller, thank you for your kind words and helpful suggestions. I will try some cropping to enhance the path and see about minimizing the pink. The snow had just ended so the sky was still cloudy.
Jim, what a treat to get Bryce with fresh snow! I think your comp. works fine. It shows of the close rocks well and lets the viewer see into the distance. I do think that the the rocks are too saturated, but I don’t think reducing the saturation will change the pink snow. You’re probably right about the pink being something reflected, since it appears in some but not all of the snow. The foreground snow on the right looks a bit blue where it’s not pink so a color balance might help.
Hi Mark, thanks so much for your informative and positive comments. It was definitely a treat to experience and I have a shot similar to Bill Fachs when he was there during a December visit.
