Brrrrryce

Image Description

We visited our son who lives in Scottsdale for Christmas in 2014. After sticking around a few days we headed over to Zion and then Bryce Canyon. We arrived at Bryce on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve in the midst of a snowstorm. The park wasn’t deserted but there was little competition for vantage points. At times the entire canyon was socked in and then others like here it would clear a bit. This frame had the most interesting sky. The next morning we awoke to 8 inches of new powder which was beautiful but also shut down most of the roads into the park interior. We had to start our homeward journey so we couldn’t stick around for the plows to clear the way but it was an unforgettable experience at this vista. >=))>

Played around with getting the WB right and used the neutral selection tool in LR. Look OK?

Hi Bill… nice shot. I’ve been there several times but never when snow was on the ground or on an overcast day. But judging from the colors on the hadoo’s and tree’s in the photograph combined with the overcast, the WB looks correct to me. Congratulations on getting a beautiful shot!

Bill, this a great view of Bryce! The WB does look spot-on. You might consider doing a little cloud sculpting, especially in the upper left corner, there’s a bright area there that grabs my eye.

Other than that minor nit, I think this works nicely.

Bill, a wonderful vantage point from this spot during the heavy snowfall cover. Overall exposure looks excellent for the intense dynamic white in the scene. And yes, it does look Brrrrryce out there for sure… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :+1:

Beautiful image! I have been there many, many years ago but never seen it in snow.

Beautiful image, Bill! I don’t think I’ve ever seen an image of Bryce Canyon like this in winter and I like this very much. To me the white balance looks great - I like that you didn’t make this image too cold and opted for this more neutral colour.

Gorgeous! I love that color combo of warm browns and white. The conifers give it that extra pop.

Very nice, Bill! This one draws me in. I feel like I need a jacket.

Bill, I very much like the colour palette here. Like Bonnie, its the gorgeous browns and white. The sky seems so fitting.

Bill, what a special experience to both get the snow and a touch of sky showing. The colors look good to me with the hoodoos nicely sharp.
