Bubble in the Flow

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

After a month where the icy crust on our snow made walking hazardous, we’ve finally started thawing out. Yesterday, I could see that my pond was mostly clear of snow so I walked down and spent some time just enjoying being outside, watching the water and taking some experimental photos. This is a single bubble riding the rapidly moving outflow from the cascade where the stream enters the pond. The colors are from the fallen leaves resting on the bottom.

Specific Feedback

Getting the bubble sharp is a challenge as it’s moving quickly. A fast shutter also freezes the motion in the water which lets it’s wave structure show clearly.

Technical Details

R5. 100-500 @ 500, 1/250 s, f/8, iso 3200, tripod, AI noise reduction in Lightroom.

Beautiful, Mark. I really like the selective focus on the bubble and the soft look of the ripples. No suggestions from this corner.

This is wonderful, but that bubble is beyond amazing!! I could see a twofer, with a crop just to the bubble!

Quite an interesting and beautiful image you caught here Mark. Nothing better than finding it in your own backyard. I like your placement of the bubble in the lower right of the composition and enjoying it’s detail too. It makes a nice counterpoint to the movement surrounding it and almost could be an eye enjoying the passing scenery as it continues it’s journey. Looks like there may be a “selfie” in there too .

Mark: I was wondering initially what the round subject was until it opened in the large view and I could tell it was a bubble. Great capture of the details in the reflection as well as your self portrait. Well seen and superbly captured and presented. >=))>

Mark, this is really neat. I can even see your reflection in the bubble, along with the trees in the area. The selective focus makes it all about the bubble. Nicely done.

Lava lamp psychedelic. I also like the tree’s reflection in the bubble, maybe without the self portrait

This is wonderful. So cool.
I love the fact we can see your reflecion on the bubble.

Mark…WOW, not sure how I missed this one. This is an outstanding scene. Excellent find and well crafted photo overall. Congratulations on this well deserved EP too… :+1: :star_struck:

Wonderful! The sharp, almost chrome looking bubble against the “warbly” flowing pattern of the water as the background makes for an image that catches and holds your attention. It makes you wonder how the bubble can survive in such chaos of motion that surrounds it - I resonate with that bubble and life. Great work!

Dude!

Terrific composition: bubble, water surface, rocks/whatever below. Really nice. The branches in perfect focus give an “alien cornea” vibe to the bubble. Just well done.

I played with it in LR. It’s loads of fun in B&W, too.
