Bubbles on a Hot Spring

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

One particular hot spring in the Porcelain Basin at Norris was covered with bubbles that kept rising to the surface. The surprise was that they rarely popped, leaving much of the surface dotted with the bubbles. When combined with the shapes and colors below the surface and the reflected sky, I get a feeling of outer space.

Specific Feedback

I’ve tried pushing the saturation by increasing the contrast and like this middle of the road result.

Technical Details

R5, 100-500 @ 427, 1/125 s, f/16, iso 800, tripod and polarizer to limit that strength of the sky’s reflection.

Mark, I really like this. The colors look good to me so you managed the contrast and saturation well. It has a nice 3D look to it with the bubbles floating on top and the terrain below visible. Well done.

Wonderful!! I could go for even more saturation/contrast, but that’s just greed.

This is so cool. Magical. If you didn’t know this was water you could imagine them in the air flying over land below. Like little spaceships. They’re like clouds in the sky.

Oh, nice! Bubbles like this always remind me of jellyfish. The colors are great.

Yes, Igor, I got an “outer space” feeling when I saw this scene…
