Bursting Bubble

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There’s a small boiling spring that seems to be unnamed along the boardwalk in the Black Sands Basin of Yellowstone. It regularly (every few seconds) sends up large bubbles that burst when they reach the surface. I spent some time trying to catch them in the act of bursting.

Specific Feedback

This burst one is the best as it was large, had just burst but the flying water hadn’t collapsed back into the pool so there’s lot of flying water with the bubble’s shape retained.

Technical Details

R5, 100-500 @ 105, 1/500 s, f/9, iso 800, tripod

Mark,
Wonderful capture and perfect timing on the bursting bubble. I know you mentioned this was a boiling spring, but it also reminds me of a sphere of ice. The red rock goes well with the boiling water and I love all those water droplets visable in the large version. Beautifully done.

Mark, I really like the freeze on this bursting bubble. The red rock gives a great contrasting BG, but what I think I like best is the peek through the clear boiling water into the depths below.

A fine shot, Mark. I’m not generally a fan of “frozen” water images but here it’s the right approach and it works very well. The shape of the water is echoed by the shape of the pool below it, which results in a balanced composition.

Nice one Mark! It looks like you caught this at the exact perfect time and were rewarded by a cool and beautiful image. I really like this and can’t think of anything that I would change or would wish for!

Cool shot. Perfect timing and SS to capture the bursting bubble. Hope you didn’t get burned.

Wonderful capture!! I love the detailed structure of the water. It stands out beautifully against the very interesting BG.

Thats fun! Before reading the associated text I was wondering about what had occurred here.

I’ll echo Mark, that’s just a fun photo; it looks like spun glass.
