Bungle in the Jungle

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

You young whipersnappers might not get the title reference… but it come’s from a song by Jethro Tull - title of the same name. I realize the words, and meaning of the song don’t really relate to this image… however, there’s one line in there, “…snakes in the grass” for which I do relate to this image. A “jungle” of grass and who knows what may be lurking and hiding in there…

I’m guessing this might not have much appeal - in fact, I’m not sure about this one myself - other than the dang song stuck in my head… Not much to focus on here, so it might not jump out at you.

Yet another ICM creation from the Marin Headlands with our NorCal group.

Specific Feedback

I’m really wondering if this connects with ANYONE! I can’t quite put my finger on how closely this comes to Monet or Impressionism… Or would this have been a better fit for a 1990’s web page tiled background?

I purposely kept the color/sat a bit pale, to more mimic what you might see in a field of grasses.

If this does appeal to you, then why? Do you now have that song stuck in your head? Here’s one of the stanzas:

“The rivers are full of crocodile nastiest
And He who made kittens put snakes in the grass
He’s a lover of life but a player of pawns
Yes, the King on His sunset lies waiting for dawn
To light up His Jungle as play is resumed
The monkeys seem willing to strike up the tune”

Lon, who the heck is Jethro Tull ?..I was more of a Grass Roots kinda dude… :face_with_spiral_eyes:
Seriously, this has a really quiet feeling to it more than a Jethro Tull “Rumble in the Jungle” feel to it. Oh wait, that was the Foreman & Ali headline.
More seriously. I do see the expression of the Savannah Grass Land as it were and the connection to your ICM presentation here… :+1:

Thanks a lot Lon! Now I can’t get that song out of my head! I recognized the title from the song right away. This image is appealing to me. The subtle splash of color and the lines created by the movement make for a pleasing image. I like how the ULC is brighter than the rest of the image, especially against the other three corners, and the lines move the eye to the ULC as well. It gives the image movement.

I like the feel of this image, Lon. I get a sense of pretty high wind waving the grass and the flowers make an interesting contrast to the grasses. I have a feeling that this would work better for me if it were flipped horizontally, but I haven’t played with it.
