Monet Bouquet

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Captured during our recent NPN NorCal get together. I hung around for a bit longer after everyone had left. I headed out the trail along the headlands looking for things to shoot. The wind was brisk to say the least, which made an easy choice for ICM! Found this cluster of summer wildflowers and had at it.

Specific Feedback

Really curious as to your general impression and feedback. This one is clearly not a mysterious one as it’s fairly obvious the subject matter.

I’m actually pretty dang happy about this one! Keeps me motivated to keep searching!

Thank you for any comments and feedback. It’s always appreciated!

Technical Details

Nikon Z8, Z224-120mm @75mm, f/22 1/8ths, iso50. 2X ND, Single frame ICM.

In full disclosure, the original “motion blur” is unchanged really, except for the square crop. However, I’ve since discovered the significant effects of the texture and clarity sliders on motion blurs like this one. Negative clarity greatly “softens” the image creating a, well, “Monet” type of texture, which I was after. A bit of positive texture helps retain a bit of detail. Also, a bit of cloning here and there to remove dark spots or otherwise, small distracting elements. Of course vibrance/saturation to taste; dodging/burning and the usual processing suspects in ACR/PS.

Lovely! The colour combination works very well, and the conditions were ideal for an ICM! Sweet image.

Wow, you really made those wild flowers and grasses into something. I might bring up the shadows and/or brighten the greens in the LRC, but that’s a nit. Lovely!

Real nice, Lon. It does have a Monet look to it. Nicely done. I do agree with @Bonnie_Lampley wrt the LRC. Lots to like here.

Gorgeous colors and I love the way those things are exploding out of the corner! Happy energy!!

Next time I’m not going to let you out of my sight!

Definitely from the Monet school, Lon. I like the flow and the rather feel of this image. The lower right corner doesn’t bother me as the entire lower portion of the image is slightly darker than the upper portion as one would expect and helps anchor the flowers and keeps them from flying away.

Very well done, Lon. The purples against the yellows and greens work well. You’ve got a lot of diagonals which make it vibrant.

Lon: Wonderful color palette and a very pleasing result. Thanks also for the tip on using Clarity. You made some very fine lemonade from less than classically perfect conditions. :+1: :+1:>=))>
