Image Description
Personally, this simply validates my belief that photographs can always be made - no matter the time of day, conditions, etc. But I also acknowledge that compelling landscape images are less likely to be captured mid-day under bluebird skies with a constant wind about 20mph… not your best landscape photography conditions. So what the heck, ICM could care less about prime shooting conditions…
And so not wanting to be shut out, I often pull out the motion blur techniques for fun. Even though I’ve chosen to hide this part of my comments, I’m not quite ready to disclose the original scene. I don’t even think I could figure this one out. What I personally see is an entrance to a cave or even just an entrance to a structure; perhaps a portal of some sort. This result was totally unexpected - but then that’s what you get with random movements.
What I see is this hanging in a gallery of very high end modern art! It evokes an entrance of some sort – maybe in a fantasy reed forest on a windy day… Ah, yes, and the reeds are growing out of shallow water… and… “The Mole had been working very hard all the morning, spring-cleaning his little home,” and… “Spring was moving in the air above and in the earth below and around him, penetrating even his dark and lowly little house with its spirit of divine discontent and longing.”
– Kenneth Grahame, “The Wind in the Willows.”
If anyone here has not read it, I BESEECH you!! PLEASE! It is a jewel for lovers of nature and animals!
This is excellent Lon! To me it looks like an ICM of a waterfall and pool, though I don’t think that adequately explains the horizontal motion on the top.
I took one look a this image and my curiosity peaked. Looks like some wind + ICM on reeds or wheat?? The color pallet is really nice. The abstract movement is very good. I took a peak at your website, some very nice photos there also. I think this abstract is a cut above. Nice work and kudos Lon.
I really wasn’t expecting such a response. I almost, kinda don’t want to share the original scene. Actually, I won’t post a picture, but tell you that the original scene is simply a distant shot of the Pacific coastline headlands. The white is the surf, and there are both horizontal and vertical movements in a single exposure. The brown is the lands end and the darker center is the shady side of the rock extending in to the ocean. The aqua-blue of course, the ocean. Oh, and to disquise this even further, the image was flipped vertically; ie. the horizontal white swipes of the surf would naturally be at the bottom.
This was captured during our inaugural gathering the NPN Northern CA Regional group. It was a great first event and so glad to make some new aquaintences and renew previous. Thanks to Keith Flood who helped pull this together. This was pretty well attended. Here’s who made the trek to the Marin Headlands, just on the north side of the GG Bridge: @Keith_Flood @Bonnie_Lampley & hubby Guy @Diane_Miller @Tony_Siciliano @DeanRoyer @Matthew_Chatham
Myself
Hey – idea – next group outing, I’m sure there will be many posts in the regular NPN categories, but how about everyone post their one favorite in the thread here and then we (the participants in the outing) vote on our favorite.
Lon: The color palette caught my eye immediately and the “What is this?” quotient is off the charts. My first impression was thin reeds or trees fighting fierce winds. After reading your revelation comments I still have little clue how you arrived here. No matter, the final result is marvelous. >=))>
Not sure what to make of this image. It looks like the entry way in to a house or a fort or some sort of structure. The colors and white streaks remind me of flowing water.. In any case it is a fascinating to view.
