CA Quail

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We are seeing a pair of CA quail coming into our backyard in the evenings now and I continue to be fascinated by the male’s beautiful feather patterns… not to mention their cool topknot. He was at the base of a black oak tree here.

Nice colors and detail! The topknot is lost in the bark texture but maybe not much you can do about it. With any luck, you’ll have babies soon!

I love the CA quail. The are so beautiful and the little topknot is a curious addition to the feathering.

The curious pose is very nice. He looks a little shy and apprehensive and ready to retreat at any moment.

I might consider another version without the little green leaf in front of the bird.

I hope we get to see more of this wonderful little bird!

Excellent detail, especially for that iso, Dave. The feather patterns and colors are really cool. With a little luck he’ll perch up to protect his harem soon and you’ll be able to catch him with a more distant and contrasting background.

Great look at the quail, showing of its color and detail very well.
