Cactus flower

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The flower caught my eye. When I tried this point of view, the curves appealed to me. There was no way to set up a tripod where I was standing so this one was hand-held.

Wonderful and unusual composition, perfect whites, very lovely BG – and the DOF is just fine! My only possible suggestion is maybe tone down the contrast on the tip of the branch on the right edge – just a smidgen. Would also be interesting to see another composition where the whole tip is in the frame. It balances the flower nicely.

This is a real beauty, Don. That long throat isn’t something I usually associate with cacti, so emphasizing it really works. I also like the depth of field with the far sunlit petals being so sharp.

Don: Our similar cacti bloomed for the first time last year and now it looks like a regular thing. Really good DOF/POF management especially. Great subject superbly captured and presented. >=))>

Excellent capture. No suggestions from me. Hope you didn’t get stuck…

Diane, Dennis, Bill, Dave, thanks for the comments.
