Calm Waters

Image(s)

Image Description

I had stopped by the lake wondering if there would be a sunrise. However, the fog rolled in and the lake was extremely calm. I was taking landscape shots when a common merganser swam by. I quickly changed my settings and grabbed this image. Something special to be standing in snow and fog with a still lake and no one around on a December morning.

Feedback Requests

Any feedback welcome. I took a few variations of the image including some with more leading space for the merganser. However I liked this one as it shows the wake on the calm surface of the lake.

Bryan: I love this comp and also that you had the presence of mind to come up with just the right settings to freeze the action. I have a not really justifiable aversion to high ISOs but with today’s sensors and software this proves you can get pretty impressive results. Very nicely done. >=))>

Bryan, the long wake adds a lot to the sense of quiet serenity here. The subtle blues tones across the frame and the hint of distant shore are fine additions.
