Description

This protea is growing in my garden and is called ‘Carnival Flame’. I loved the imperfection and lack of symmetry, the randomness, as well as the vibrant colours.
It reminds of a cross between a sea anemone and a spidery creature.

Specific Feedback

Is there sufficient clarity to bring out the fine hairs emanating from this plant? I didn’t include the stem as I felt the flower head was the main focus. Is the white background too stark a contrast?

A very artistic presentation of this Protea. The stark BG works well here and the hairs show up quite well. I wish that there was some shadows present which would add depth to the photo as the even lighting has flattened the subject. You may want to enhance the shadows a bit to produce more depth. A single off camera flash is worth trying as well. Other than that, those are very minor nits and I like what you have accomplished. Awesome…Jim

This is very cool, Diny. I’ve never encountered one of these and it’s pretty spectacular. I think the white background works very well here and agree that the stem is unnecessary in this presentation. I do think @Jim_Zablotny has a point about a little modeling light to add depth.

I really like this shot. I would be tempted to add just a touch of contrast to see what that would do. Well done.
