Chasing Off the Interloper

During my February Tanzania tour, we first witnessed a zebra foal walk into and then somehow escape a pride of lions, followed by even more drama when the pride found a stranger in their midst. A lioness from outside the pride had wandered to the shores of the small lake in the family’s territory, and soon the females from the pride came over to investigate.

They wandered over one by one, patiently waiting for all of the reinforcements to arrive before ganging up on the interloper and chasing her off. Here, the stranger has just escaped the fracas before she sprints along the shoreline with the others in hot pursuit. We left the conflict while it was in a standoff, with the loner standing forlornly in the water and the other lionesses guarding the shoreline. You can see the full sequence here, if you’re interested.

I’m with David. Love the whole sequence especially the wide shot of her in water and the zebras and others watching the drama. There are some excellent action shots (actually, all of them are wonderful). Thanks.

Wow, you really captured some images of nature’s drama in these images, Max. The full sequence is well worth a look. It makes one curious about why this intruder came to the group. Excellent action series!

This is quite the action sequence, Max. The back story would be interesting, since there needs to be genetic transfer between prides. At least on occasion, it would seem that a new comer does get accepted.

My life was pretty busy about the time you posted this really great image, Max, so I guess that is how I missed seeing it. Amazing shot, with great details and emotion of the cats captured in this shot. :+1::+1:
