Chipping Away

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The Siberian Chipmunk is the only chipmunk species found in the wild outside North America. I often hear its high-pitched chirp before I see it. They love rocky areas in the mountains of Korea, and they are often found near temples, though I don’t think they’re particularly spiritual. This one was sitting on a very large rock beside a river the other day. After finishing its meal it had a rocket-fueled chase with another chipmunk, round and round like a game of tag.

Specific Feedback

Would you have preferred to see sharp focus on the moss in front of the animal?

How did I miss a Chipmunk? They are SOOO cute! And you captured this little one so well! I love the way they hold their snacks, and that carefully curled tail elicits a big smile! Wonderful detail and NR for the high ISO. I don’t mind the moss behind him being OOF but think it might be good to darken it a bit. This might be one where a vignette would give an extra visual appeal. Well seen and captured!

Wonderful composition and post processing. My only suggestion is to reduce the brightness beyond the back of the chipmunk, it is a bit of a distracton.

Thanks @Diane_Miller @gDan52 . I’ve added a bit of vignette, darkened that moss and lowered the brightness behind the 'munk. Great suggestions!

Well that’s one cute little critter. We have squirrel gliders that are almost as cute as this.

He’s posed beautifullly for you on his mat of green. Love the OOF background. I also like @gDan52 idea of softening the light triangle.
