The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I can never get enough shots of chipmunks and this one dared me to go after the shot. It dove into the punky center of a cut tree trunk and then popped up for a look. With dirt on its nose, he stayed up long enough for me to get a focus lock for this shot. I cropped it down quite a bit and cleaned up some of the edges to the tree hole on the LH side.
Specific Feedback
I wanted to bring out the cuteness in this little critter with a fairly tight crop. The DOF could be better, but with horrible light, you get what you can. What do you think? I left the dirt on its nose as an additional piece of the story. This chippy may have found the acorn stash of one of its neighbors.
Technical Details

What a cutie! Perky pose, bright eyes and the dirt and little foot make this a very appealing image.
Jim, you might consider cloning out the bit of whisker across each eye.
Sweet!
They are irresistible and I enjoy photographing them, too. So lively and always up to something. This captures their mischievous spirit very well. So curious and kind of oblivious a lot of the time. It’s a little noisy, but engaging so that doesn’t really matter.
This little guy is so cute Jim! I love the image. Great look from the chippie daring you to try to catch it. I think it actually looks pretty good considering your circumstances and lighting. Nicely done, and I love the dirty nose.
Thank you @Sandy_Richards-Brown , @Ed_Williams , @Kris_Smith , @Diane_Miller , and @JRajput for your critiques. I wish that I had better conditions and it was a very dark morning. Noise suppression worked OK, but more may have removed the hair detail on the chipmunk. More space would be good too. I was motivated to do this tight crop to eliminate some of the distracting features around the stump…Jim
What a cute little one! Chippy’s bring back such memories of my time being a kid. My grandma in PA, she had a chippy who would visit her nightly on her porch swing. When we visited, we had to sit very still and it would come up and take a peanut out of our hands. As a little, that was a BIG thrill. Same when we went camping…to put out some peanuts was fun. Such a cute little one, great pix!
