Christmas Catus also Easter

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Even though it is called a Christmas Catus, it blooms constantly. It has been one of my favorite subjects over the last few months. It gets plenty of natural light.

Specific Feedback

Over all sharpness, composition and lighting.

These things often don’t behave the way they’re advertised, John. I had one that usually bloomed twice a year without sticking it in a closet or shading it like they tell you to do. You got an interesting angle on the near bloom on this one and the second bloom and bud kind of blend in to make it a super bloom. I think an appropriate curves layer might let you bring up the petals a bit without blowing out any of the whites to give the blossom a bit more pop, but ti’s gorgeous as presented.

Thank you, I will try out your suggestion.
John

Attractively composed with nice color and detail and stands out well with your dark background.

John: Beautiful subject and very nice light. This looks like a subject ripe for stacking as this DOF doesn’t work real well for me. When shooting Christmas cactus or other flowers with important small anthers like day lilies and hibiscus the anthers need to be sharp. Yours are well outside the plane of focus and are a major distraction for me. If you still have blooms I would certainly revisit as your comp and lighting are spot on. >=))>
