I have seen a lot of columnar basalt but never from the top as in this Icelandic outcroping.

The shapes here are quite interesting. I suggest that you crop so that the top left corner is eliminated because my eye goes right to it. Additionally, you might want to play around with the midtones contrast because the shapes look a little flat.

Hey David – A great subject. I need some context, so I think you could have shot it with a wide angle lens, filled 2/3 of the frame with the cool pattern, and shown us the Iceland landscape in the background. Don’t know where you live, but you can find an identical subject atop the Devil’s Postpile in the Eastern Sierra.
David, seeing columnar basalt from the top is different and you’ve done a good job. The repost is nicely improved…looks somewhat like paving stones, just a bit more random. Seeing the grass in the cracks is good also.
