About This Image
Locally, it seems that the Orchard Orbweaver spiders build the webs that best diffract sunlight to produce some great colors in the oof highlights. It also means finding a good looking web catching the sun and getting the “right” angle to pick up the diffraction.
Feedback Requested
I like the carnival sense that the diffraction creates even as I expect that the spider is not doing this deliberately.
Technical Details
R5, 180 mm macro, tripod. Lots of small positioning changes to maximize the diffracted colors and position the spider and web in the frame. A full frame view.
Mark, what a find and you did great at positioning so that you captured the colors of refraction. The 3D-look given here adds to the image. Wonderful lines leading into the subject. Really a great shot. I sure can’t think of anything that could improve the shot.
Mark: What an incredible spectral display and the DOF effects make this even more dynamic. Looks like you were also blessed with calm conditions. Images like this are a great example of good conditions and exemplary vision and skill coming together to produce a wonderful result. Most excellent. >=))>
Beautiful image, and it looks like the conditions were just right to get the diffraction captured so well. Going out in the field has lessoned my arachnophobia considerably, so I’m glad I can enjoy photos like this now!
So tricky to get all-round color like this combined with an in-focus spider, but you did it, Mark. The black BG completes the splendid scene. One might imagine the spider enjoying the show as much as us, or even that prey might be enticed by it, but I guess it’s all basic physics.
Wonderful. And so thoughtful! A web screaming: Take my picture! Or was it the spider that is perfectly in focus and just enough hidden for possible prey. I am fan. The best time for this at my personal patch is in August. I am preparing myself from now on.
