Cooling off

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We were walking at the desert museum today looking for bees and came up next to this guy staying in the shade from the humid hot Arizona summer.

Specific Feedback

Should there be more DOF with the tail so it was focus. The head was the main target. How is the crop. This was cropped about 50% maybe.

Hi Dean, I think a natural fall off in details towards the tail is to be expected in a single shot like this. Definitely a good idea to target the head. Sharpness looks pretty good overall even though I’m wondering if the head would be even sharper with a faster shutter speed. I’ve been shooting my R7 up to ISO 2500 and using denoise software with good results. I think you could try the LR or ACR denoise function and see what you think to get even faster shutter speeds in a situation like this. The BG is busy but there is still a good contrast with the lizard and I like the rock as a perch. Nice catch.
