Cormorant Above the Clouds (not a Loon!)

Two autumn’s ago I got to go to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge where a lot of birds stop during migration. This one Loon was the last in a huge group that were flying by.

Very interesting small in the frame composition, with the cloud playing a major role!

I’m not a birder and it’s hard to tell at this magnification, but if I’m seeing a hooked bill, this sure looks like a Cormorant.

Vanessa, the Cormorant and clouds in the grey sky look good. Shifting your camera a bit to the right to move both the Cormorant and the main cloud off center would let the negative space work better here.

@Diane_Miller I think you’re right! I looked back at my pictures with a ton of birds closer up. I should have made a non-discript title! : /
