There goes the Cormorant

One of my summer projects was to photograph a Cormorant flying just of the water, in good light. This Cormorant was photographed on the Back River in Old Lyme, CT on 8-3, 8:43 AM and is my best shot so far. Most of the time I felt like I was trying to shoot the rood runner. Here come the Cormorant, find in the camera, focus, and darn he is past me.

Thank you for stopping by.

Pertinent technical details or techniques:

Canon 7DII, sigma 150-600mm, F7.1, 313mm, 1/3200, Iso 400. I reduced the highlight by -17, increase the shadows by 24, blacks by 11 and cropped the shot into 16 by 9, using DxO Photo Lab.

Good job catching this one flying by. They do fly fast and seem to see you waiting for them and move a little further off shore. I like the crop although there seems to be a bit of brown smudge on the very top sort of right half. Good luck!!

This looks pretty good Peter. Detail is quite good for the size of the bird in the frame and the bright blue eye works well. I also like the slightly open beak.
