Harley: What a terrific color palette and contrast in textures from the trees to the badland hills. I like the proportion of trees to hills as well. The dead snag is icing on the cake. Nicely seen and superbly captured. >=))>
I really like this Harley. One of your best IMHO. No suggestions or nits from me.
Harley, I love this, particularly the color palette and the juxtaposition of the soft forms of the trees against the jagged, sharp hills. I also like the almost symmetry of the stand of cottonwoods.
I could see a little more breathing room on either side, but this is really nice as is.
Harley, what a productive trip this was for you, such an interesting diversity of subject matter. This is my favorite of your recent series. There are just so many interesting horizontal layers in this image, and I think the amount of space devoted to each is just right. And you could not ask for that dead tree to be located in a better spot. I agree with @Craig_Moreau, a bit more breathing room on both left and right would help, but that is a small nit.
You have been nailing it with your recent Utah trip, Harley. This one is my favorite one so far. The blues and yellows work in harmony in this beautiful landscape. I like the horizontal format as it emphasizes the cottonwoods while the verticals in the BG hillside add some visual tension to the image. I have no suggestions other than the already mentioned bit more of breathing room on the right and left sides. For me that dead tree in the middle is a very important element and adds a nice counterpoint to the fall color. Beautifully done!
Beautiful, Harley. Great juxtaposition of shapes and color. I like the way you rendered the hills. The blue tone contrasts beautifully with the warm foliage. You’re comp. looks spot on to me. I don’t think “breathing room” is needed. Only thought would be to darken the uninspiring foreground grass. IMO, it tends to distract from the focal point of the image, which I see as the cottonwoods against the blue hills. I would also vignette the upper half of the image to further direct the eye. Otherwise processing looks spot-on.
Love the yellow to blue colour contrast here and the form of the trunk on the dead tree in the centre foreground is great. No nits from me.
This a truly spectacular image. The layers, the colors, the composition are just amazing. Regarding more breathing room for the trees, I took the opposite tack on this reworking and cropped in some on both sides. I am always so hesitant to amputate trees at the edge of a photo, but lately I have been looking at various master painter compositions and notice that they often truncate things at the perimeters in ways we photographs rarely do. So, this is my take. I also cropped a tiny bit off the top and lightened the trunk of the tree on the right. Please don’t get me wrong. This is a fabulous photo as is! I’m just bored and love playing with beautiful photos…
Harley, a simply great view, love the mix of colors and shapes. I’m with Bill about the centered snag adding a fine bit of extra interest.
Really well seen and composed. Nice.
