Crane Dance

Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis), Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge, Ridgefield, Washington, USA

Went to the nearby Wildlife Refuge this morning. I couldn’t believe how many Sandhill Cranes there were…probably a couple thousand. And they weren’t quite as skittish as they usually are.

Anyway, this is just a fun shot. I’m not set up for action images…or birds in flight stuff. But this kinda turned out. I would wish for more DOF, but many of the birds are in focus.

Just a fun shot, any comments appreciated.

Nice job on this image, David. It has a nice balance. I was there Monday and noticed the large number of Cranes. Unfortunately, they were mostly feeding when I had group shots. I did manage a few flight shots.

Very nice and really more than just a fun shot! The fog gives a lovely soft environment and you caught interesting behavior. No need for me to have them all tack sharp.
