Cruising Pelican

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I got this shot a while back over on the coast a while back. The prehistoric look of the bird, and the exotic looking background reminds me of King Kong’s Skull Island.

Specific Feedback

Composition? I know this isn’t an ideal BIF shot considering it’s angling away from the camera but I like where it’s looking, and flying toward.

Technical Details

D500, Nikon 200-500 lens, 1/1600th, f 8.0, 675mm, ISO 2500, monopod, cropped to 5004 x 3143

A very cool image, Dave. Nice job on the pelican and this certainly looks like a frame from an old time adventure movie. Just as a nit, do you think you could add a touch of canvas to the top to clear the right hand peak?

Hi Dave
I love the concept and the Pelican feather detail is very good. If only you could get birds to do another flyby to get another shot at the mounts.

Dennis-

Thanks for the suggestion. I DO think it benefits with not having the upper right formation not having its top cut off. How’s this?

Yeah, huh. Actually, this is a portion of the rocky coastline with some crashing surf flowing down looking like mountain waterfall to me, and those growy things could be some kind’ve exotic, prehistoric trees.

Cool image Dave with bird looking over such a wonderful scene. The repost is a nice improvement.

Nice job on the repost, Dave.

Thanks. Content-aware fill sure is handy.
