Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is the reflection of pine trees on a cliff overlooking Moraine Lake at dawn. I would really like to blur out the BG rocks, but had a really hard time just selecting the reflections in this image, or vice a versa the BG rocks at the bottom of the very shallow lake. I love the crystal feel of the reflections.

Specific Feedback

Any help is appreciated with this one to select the BG and try to reduce the clarity of the rocks to better offset the crystal reflections.

Technical Details

Samsung Galaxy 5, f2.4, 1/60s, iso 64, 7 mm. Cropped to about 40-50% of original for composition.

Ed, this is really cool! No way those are pine trees reflecting in a lake. They appear so much like crystals.

I don’t really think you need to mess with the background rocks. I don’t find them distracting and the crystals do stand out. However, if you wanted to create more separation, you could try a luminance mask in Lightroom or a lights mask in Photoshop using something like the TK luminosity panel. I use Lumenzia myself but it should be possible to just select the reflected pine trees.
