Ice Mountain

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The ice on the lake doesn’t necessarily freeze in a pattern, but the rime ice that develops with days of sunlight can be spectacular. The lake ice froze in this scene of a mountain, with snowfall , and rime ice clouds reflecting the light of the night.

It comes across just fine - in fact, at first I thought it was “the real thing”. The only thing I’d suggest would be to lower the luminosity of the “clouds” as they tend to overpower the rest a bit in my eyes , although (or because) they are also very beautiful.

Connie, this is really superb. The colours scream “cold”, and the patterns, lines, and swirls are just amazing. I agree that the bright whites might be toned down a bit.
Excellent eye to have seen this, and a gorgeous capture.

@SandyR-B , @Mike_Friel , thanks for that insight! I agree to tone those “clouds” down a bit. I shall give it a try.

Connie, there’s a fine “in a galaxy far away” feeling here, with that ice mountain on the right and the “strange” floating islands of frost. The scattered smaller bits feel like stars, adding the the outer space sense. Well seen.
