Image Description

Dappled willow will have long slender green leaves dappled with large beige and pink spots. However during the first few days as the tiny leaves develop they are green and associated with tiny flower cones. This tree is in our garden in Jacksonville, OR.

Sony 100mm Macro GM @ 140mm w/ TC1.4, f/11, a7Rv @ ISO 1000, 1/1000" handheld (playing with new lens, always fun). Perhaps would have been better to go for more DOF at f/16.

I love the light, Richard. It creates wonderful greens in the leaves that really imply spring and the catkins are a very often overlooked spring flower, and usually one of the earliest to actually bloom. The composition works well with the dim greens and browns below and the black above.

Thanks! You’re knowledgeable about tree morphology. Good to have some educational features in nature photos. Bland dark background is the surface of the street in front of the house. Camera was aimed downwards while I stood on a large rock.

Richard, the lighting is great. It sets off these leaves and catkins well. Duplicating the angle of the branch with the angled green in the background is a nice touch. It’s my recollection that these catkins hang down as they mature so having them pointing up is one more sign of early spring.

The dof works fine as presented.

Richard: I’m really late to this and offer my apologies. I love shooting in light like this and think you did really well in all of your comp and DOF choices.

I have the new Sony macro as well and have been using the 2xTC with it for some real high mag shots and the longer working distance. . I gave up on anyone making a 200mm for mirrorless but have found this a really good substitute. Looking forward to more of your work in macro. >=))>
