We were headed back to camp with our Guide, and surprised this hippo. who rose from the dark water and let us know he/she wasVERY unhappy to be disturbed. That echoing ROAR is one I will never forget.
Note the scars on the cheek - hippos are nasty things and fight a lot.

It’s a strong and impressive image Sandy, the sun-set water adds a great colour to set-off the perfectly timed shot of the Hippo. The range of exposures are all spot-on, it works very well.
Nice sunset image of this beast Sandy. I wouldn’t want to make it too upset. The peachy gold tones on the water are wonderful. Good detail in the hippo, especially in the larger version.
Love the expressions from Hippo, captured nicely !
I may enhance the water vapour and reduce the saturation in orange.
I suspect, this was taken with your 100-500 mm lens, would have preferred lesser DOF here.

Jagdeep, it was the Sony A1 with the 200-600 lens, I just don’t havethe rest of the settings.
How would you suggest bringing out the exhaled breath more? I 'd like to do that.
