Derelicts

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There was a collection of old vehicles and other junk not far from where I live and the owner of the place died maybe ten years ago. His heirs worked to get rid of most of it, part of which was an old brick building. They got this old D-7 bulldozer functioning and were using it to demolish the old building when it gave up the ghost and the heirs quit. It’s been sitting there ever since with a single wall of the building unseen on the left (I haven’t figured out how to get the right angle for that). I finally got out a while back on a nice foggy morning that blurred the background to photograph it.

Specific Feedback

Does this evoke a feeling of desolation and abandonment?

Dennis, cool shot! I like the way you framed it, the DOF is perfect, and the foggy conditions add a sense of mystery to the scene. The texture depicted really makes it for me, starting with the demolished brick on the bottom, the rust on the blade and the pattern on the grill. Your processing accentuated it nicely.

The bucket over the exhaust makes it feel someone is trying to preserve the old machine (preventing water from entering), so I may have removed it for the shot.
