Dickey Beach Osprey

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This Osprey frequents a very popular beach on the Sunshine Coast. He doesn’t seem at all worried by the constant flow of noisy children, flapping umbrellas and a very low tree to perch on. I have a few shots of the whole bird but the expression on his face is just “meh”. I was pleased when the wind picked up his head dress.

Lovely shot Glenys, nothing says “surprise” like an Ospreys eyes, and the wind adds extra character to the portrait.
Nice muted background to set the whole thing off.

Glennie, his expression along with the ruffled feathers is wonderful…he seems totally astonished.

Great photo! Love the expression and the wind whipped feathers. Very nice composition.

What a wonderful portrait with the perfect dispassionate stare! I love the composition and the BG is gorgeous, with the bit of gold matching the eyes and the blue is a wonderful complement. Details are amazing, especially with the huge crop. No suggestions!!

The stare and the ruffled feathers makes for an interesting image, Glenys. Great detail and pleasing background.

Really nice Glenys. What a great stare with a terrific look at those eyes. Details held up well. Pleasing background. No nits.

Outstanding image and you should consider sending it into the humor contest that I believe is ongoing.

Thank you everyone! I’m pleased you liked it!

A lot of character in this — the slightly surprised, “just woken up” look works well, especially with the wind lifting the feathers.

Detail holds up well given the crop, and the background stays clean. Focus looks to have caught the base of the beak rather than the eye, with the left eye a touch soft. A slight lift in shadows on that side may help.

The movement in the feathers adds to the moment, though a slightly faster shutter speed might have kept a bit more crispness.

Overall, a really engaging shot with plenty of personality.

The “hairdo” makes this image, Glennie. A beautiful expression and the head shot was definitely the way to go with this one.

This Osprey looks like he got caught doing something! And sharp focus on the eyes and soft feathers is wonderful!
