Douglas Fir Trunk

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Playing around with ICM at a quick stop on the way to Halloween Casket Races at a nearby town and zoomed in to keep the frame filled with the trunk of a fair sized second growth Douglas Fir tree (old enough to have accumulated some nice character). In post processing I used a levels adjustment and pulled the sliders all the way in until it started to give me warnings. I was amazed at the way the colors came out.

Specific Feedback

Anything.

Dennis, this is so sweet! Love the colors and the high-key effect of your Levels settings. It’s interesting that it was of just one trunk. Nice!

I enjoy the colors here, they compliment each other nicely! With most, but not all ICM work, I find myself wishing it was a little less “obvious” as an abstract presentation, but this one has the harmonious color palette to offset that issue in my mind. I honestly would not have known it was a tree trunk so mission accomplished!

Awesome range of colors Dennis! No idea what the true subject was so job well done in creating something unique. I like the impression of light shining through from behind this “curtain”.
