A rare outing for me as I only carried my macro lens into the field this day with no real plans at all beyond looking about.
I found this dried up old Western or Coastal Sycamore leaf laying on an old burned out tree stump in this Riverside County nature reserve.
Very cool, Paul. The color of the leaf is excellent with lots of great detail. At first, I was on the fence about the small bits surrounding the leaf, but they are central to the composition. I love the dark background, and I think it would be stronger if you cloned those few white spots near the top left. The char looks great.
That old leaf has a lot of character, and you brought it out very well ā evokes a well-worn saddle that has been left in the rain and sun. Iām on the fence about the small leaves at the top that are cut off. The others make the story.
@Preston_Birdwell@Diane_Miller thank you both for the reviews and your thoughts for change. Your ideas were well warranted and easy changes too. I cleaned up some of the white items along the ULC and than cloned out the leaves along the UTC. I did want to leave most of the scattered debris as I found it, but also to give some idea of the black log area for the outline perspective.
Paul: A good find and a fine capture. I like that you still have some detail retained in the charred wood. The repost is a subtle but nice improvement. Most excellent. >=))>
