Pertinent technical details or techniques:

I was fortunate to capture this one and only Downy Woodpecker that I’ve ever seen. I used my D500, Nikon 2-500 lens, 1/250th, f/7.1, ISO 400, 400mm, cropped down to 2766 x 3041, hand held

Very good detail in the Downy, Dave. A slight turn of the head in your direction would have been nice, but you can’t control that. You might use the color sampler to pick up on the tan area f the leaf below the middle of the back and paint over the really bright tip of it as it pulls the eye away from the bird.
