Early Morning Robber Fly

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

While out near the Duck Pond yesterday morning, I found a medium sized (0.75in) robber fly perched at the tip of a dead branch. I took many shots of this fly and was horrified to find that even at f22, some portions were not in focus. So, I found the best 2 series and ran some composite stacks with DMap and PMax algorithms in Zerene Stacker. There were a few artifacts and was able clean most of them with not too much effort. Backlighting also created some processing issues especially with highlights. The BG is the trees across the pond.

Specific Feedback

Was this worth the effort? I was fortunate in having enough images for the stack.

Jim: A subject well worth the effort in capture and processing. Probably a good thing it’s no bigger than it is or it may have been sizing you up for breakfast. Great find and a superb presentation. >=))>

Superb detail, Jim, and excellent depth of field control. Interesting how it chose a perch that was so well suited to make it less conspicuous.
