Self Critique
I like the color of light and the elegant pose of the egret (they rarely look inelegant!).
I didn’t want to crop it too tight because I wanted to give a sense of the bird in its environment, and because I like the contrast between the white egret and the darker leaves in the background.
I’d welcome any suggestions for improvement.
Creative direction
I wanted to capture the beauty of the egret in golden light. I wanted to convey a sense of serenity as it glides through this light.
Specific Feedback
I’d appreciate any feedback!
(Update: I cropped the bottom and like it better cropped. Thanks for the suggestion!)

Description
The image was taken at a nature reserve in mid-September last year. I was enchanted by the golden light at the end of the day (which is not a daily occurrence, due to cloudy weather, etc.).
Hi Canan, I’m enchanted by the golden light in this image also. Nice to include more of the foliage which provides a great backdrop and provides added interest to me. Nice wing position of the bird. I like this composition with the bird well placed in the frame with room on the right to move into.
I am wondering about a version that had the bird lower in the frame and more vegetation up top. I say that as the bare branches in the lower left corner might be replaced by those wonderful leaves. Just a thought though. This very nice as is. Well done.
Thanks a lot for the feedback and suggestion, Allen. That other version would have been good, but unfortunately it doesn’t exist. I’lll think about cropping a bit more from the bottom instead. Thanks
Love the light, Canan, and the environmental aspect. I could see a crop, keeping the top 60% or so, which would still show the light and the environment, but give the egret more prominence. There’s good detail in the egret, which I think would hold up to a crop.
Beautiful light Canan and I like the wing position on the egret. The background line of trees is awesome. I could see a crop, but I do like this as presented.
Very nice photo. I agree that you could try a little cropping from the bottom but it looks very nice as is. I d like how it shows the egret beautifully in their environment.
