Image Description

Posting as “Initial Reaction” as to not give this away entirely. But I’m pretty sure that most folks will see this for what it is, and that is waves on a beach. Specifically, the internal Monterey Bay where waves aren’t very big, almost consider them “lapping” type waves.

I was perched 3 floors above the beach at our hotel, so this does have the appearance of being from an elevated position, or even a drone type capture. A somewhat unique perspective, I think.

The little time we did spend in the hotel room, I spent it photographing the beach and waves! I have many, many cool ICM’s, that I’m actually considering posting as a Project. But we’ll see.

One of my favorite results from our time in Monterey Bay.

Technical Details

Nikon Z7ii, 24-200mm @135mm, f/25 1/4s iso64. Single ICM, full frame, no crop. Processed, ACR & PS

Specific Feedback

As always, any and all comments, suggestions and impressions welcome!

Anything you can suggest will be appreciated. Personally, I’m concerned with the details in the ULC. Is that corner distracting? Or does it fit within the overall image and framing? I often have no problem cropping to find the best presentation, but I’ve left this one as it was originally framed.

Thank you!

I guessed right, but it’s abstract enough that it wouldn’t be obvious to the average viewer. I could see it as a sprite dancing in through a window – or billowing lace curtains, or a hundred cool things.

The colors, soft contrast and detail in the flow are wonderful. The smaller detail in the UL doesn’t bother me at all – it feels like it fits well. But a crop from the top could work well and leave just a hint of the blue. A twofer. Well done!

Sweet image, Lon. My first impression is clouds over a sunny beach (don’t ask me how that works). I like the gentle transitions and the flow of the image and the tones convey a positive mood.

Since I didn’t notice the ULC particularly when I viewed the image, I don’t consider it a problem.

Shooting down at the waves combined with the ICM did create a really interesting effect.

Definitely looks like a surf line to me. I like the dreamy look and colors. The diagonal composition and the wavy line makes it a little more dynamic.

While it is no mystery what the camera was pointed at, the photograph conveys a calming emotion. I think the SS and luminosity are very effective and the diagonals convey a quiet harmony. For me, the large bright white frame competes with the photo a bit.

Lon,

I knew it was a beach and in Monterey. I like the color contrasts between the yellowish sand the light azure blue of the water. The blurred water does make an Elegant Transition, so your title is perfect.

I saw a beach. No, the ULC isn’t distracting. Nicely done.

Thank you to @Diane_Miller , @Dennis_Plank , @Dick_Knudson , @Chris_Baird , @Youssef_Ismail and @Don_Peters . I appreciate your comments and reaction very much!

This is just one of many, many images, and mostly ICM’s from our recent trip. So many images that posting them here every other day would get a bit boring - and redundant. So… I just now submitted lots of them, but as a Project. Please check it out if you get a chance!

Thank you!
