Dried cornstalks and apples say fall to me, so I think you got it. I’d never have thought to put this in monochrome, but it works quite well as the subjects are so recognizable. Sometimes for me a b&w image translates better if I can fill in color in my imagination and this is a perfect example. I like the corner of tree trunk as a frame. I’m not a huge fan of this aspect ratio for portrait-oriented shots so you could take some off the bottom to see how you like it. And if you’re going to do that, the bright cornstalk on the LRC could go, too.

Oh and this is probably not macro, but I’ll let Shirley be the judge.

Hi Gill, I agree with @Kris_Smith in her critique as well as that this wouldn’t be considered a macro, and so I think it would better fit into the Non-Nature category best, I would think, because of the board that the apple is sitting on. I can move it if you would like.

I like that this is in B&W, and the different tones and textures in the image.

That’s fine Move it where it needs to be. I’m never sure what I’m doing. Just learn as I go.
My wife loves this photo and asked me to put it in the NPN.
I have another version where I kept a little color in the Apple. But I like it better here.

No problem, Gill. I have moved it. If it helps, in the FAQ page the particulars for each of the categories is provided, so if you are ever in question, you can up to the top of the page and mouse over About to get the FAQ and click on it. It is a lot on the site to learn and get used to, so if you need help feel free to ask me or one of the other moderators.

I really like this one.

This is interesting – we are used to the more classic shapes of corn sheaves, but that informs us what this is. Would be interesting with a warm color cast, with some low saturation in the apple, or maybe just low saturation everywhere.
