Eyes Left

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This fellow frequented this same perch for several days and seemed to get comfortable with me getting incrementally closer. After getting a number of acceptable shots I put the 2x on the macro lens. This is greater than 1:1, probably closer to 1.5 -2:1.

Specific Feedback

Dragonfly eyes are great subjects so I really wanted to put the focus on them. Does the FG OOF wing edge distract significantly?

Technical Details

I’m no great macro photographer, but to me the dragonfly looks good. I love his/her colours!

The OOF wing does not bother me at all and in fact, it throws all the attention at the bugs eyes.
I wonder if there is another version where there is a rather heavy, diagonal darkening gradient of the OOF part of the wing…or maybe a vignette. The yellow perch draws my eye a little.

Bill, amazing closeup of the eyes here. Seeing, no pun intended, the eyes I thought of the movie with Jeff Goldblum “The Fly”.
Absolutely stunning image… :+1: :+1:

Bill, showing off so many of the facets in this Blue Dasher’s eyes makes a stunning photo. That this is a single shot makes the details all the more exemplary. The wing is nicely out of the way (and that’s often not the case with DF’s) so it’s not a problem. The perch and it’s grasp of the perch add context.

GOOD LORD !!! Amazing. Macro lens… I have no words. STELLAR
