Fairytale

I love taking woodland images and I feel they come to life when there is fog. This image was taken on one such morning when the reservation near where I live was filled with fog. The fact that it was the fall season gave it an added sense of a fairytale land. I took this image with the jogger in the center to give it an additional sense of scale.

Specific Feedback Requested

Does the image convey the mood of that a quiet, crisp morning? I would love to print this on a canvas as I think it almost looks like a painting. Does it?

Hey! I see it’s been a while since you posted a photo and I’m glad you posted this one. To get to your initial question, I do think this reveals the mood that you were going for in this photograph. What I love about it is that you’ve paired really nice blue and hazy tones into the photo to reveal that mood. my only critique on this photo is something to look for next time you go out and shoot whenever you have a person or subject in the photo, try to put them in a space where there’s negative space behind them so that you can easily find them. Well, the person in this photo can be found. It took me a second to realize that they were there. Again love this photo and I’m glad you posted that I really enjoyed looking at it on my moody morning.

Gorgeous colors and tonalities! It does have a painterly look and a fairytale feeling. The yellows feel very well handled and I love the vignette at the bottom. The two FG trees lean a bit to the left and that leaves me with a feeling of wanting a little more room on the left, but of course there may be things there that limited the composition. That feeling might be mitigated by a slight CW rotation (or a distort to pull out the UR corner) to make the rightmost tree more vertical and eliminate the partial trunk in the UR. But those are small nits for a lovely capture!

This does indeed have a painterly look to it. I think it’s the fog that reduces sharpness and gives us a ‘painterly’ look. Most people associate impressionism with painterly and that’s what this resembles. I feel that the yellows on the right are far too saturated, however. The overall feel of this image is one of tranquility and the strong yellows do the opposite. They’re at odds with the image.

Thank you David, Igor and Diane. Really appreciate your feedback. Glad to hear that the mood of the picture resonates with all of you. I am going to tone down the saturation of the Yellows and see how that looks.

Welcome back to NPN, Amith. What a wonderful image. Painterly, peaceful, and reflective. Yes, a fairytale. Well done.

I really like the muted colors and mist. It certainly has a painterly feel. I agree with the suggestion to tone down the yellows just a bit. But overall, I would be proud of this photo
