Any comments on the emotional and/or aesthetic appeal (or lack thereof) are welcome.

I like this one, Bonnie. I didn’t initially see it as a burned area and I didn’t have an emotional reaction. I saw it as a pleasing composition with appealing shapes and color.

I like this a lot, Bonnie. It has a very stark look, but the relief provided by the colors created by the blending mode(s) add a lot of interest above and beyond the stark burned-out look of the black and white layer (though I suspect that would make an interesting image in its own right). This makes me think of looking for jewels in the rubble.

Wow. That is powerful! It does evoke a burned area. I love the distribution of varied trees here and find a lot to explore.

Possibly it is the blend that makes me peer at it for a long time and I can’t be sure what it would look like without it, but like @Dennis_Plank I wonder if that base image alone is also fascinating enough for a second (probably very different) image. But it’s amazing as it is here!!

Thanks, @Don_Peters, @Dennis_Plank, and @Diane_Miller. I appreciate that you all didn’t totally give it a thumbs down. :relieved: Since you’re interested, I shall post up the base image by itself in Landscape.

Bonnie: I really like the result and applaud the way you think and conceived it. Wonderfully imaginative and beautifully presented. >=))>

@Bonnie_Lampley Very interesting composition. The closer I look at it, it appears to be layered three different ways. I really like the overlays of the burn scar against the white snow.

Wow, I think that this is really, really nice! I love the strong contrast with that little bit of warmth, and I find the image enjoyable to just stare at and to study all the little details. Overall, a very creative and perfectly executed shot!

Thanks, @Bill_Fach, @Todd_Grivetti, and @Tom_Nevesely.

It is - there are three different layers in the file.
